Hearthside House, 677 Great Road. Simon Thornton may have died in 1873, but Hearthside House keeps his memory alive by presenting nineteenth century Victorian mourning customs. Experience all of the traditions and superstitions embraced by Victorians, who viewed the pageantry of death as a necessary part of life. This is a low-light guided tour for ambience, which is not recommended for those with poor vision in those conditions. Tour size is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance. Docents in period mourning attire provide a tour through this extensive exhibit that in displayed in every room of the house. Advance tickets only at scheduled times; on sale beginning September 15.
